科学家发现:当特定基因干细胞——白细胞的前身发生突变,细胞就会变得对炎症反应更加敏感。其结果就是会激活ADAR1酶,这种物质会对RNA小分子进行重新编辑,改变腺甙——核苷酸A的主要成分。let-7是微型RNA,它可以参与调节很多基因的活性,破坏它的工作会导致干细胞不受限制的增长以及肿瘤组织的再生。
  
科学家在研究中将从骨髓细胞(处于血癌发展的危险阶段)中提取的细胞微生物移植到小鼠身上,目的是确定ADAR1蛋白质在白血病干细胞发展中起到的作用。
  
遗传学家在确定ADAR1的运作机制之后研发出了一种方法:这种方法可以让细胞停止转化。通过抑制对炎症的敏感性或者结合8-Aza的作用,科学家重新恢复了let-7的活性。干细胞再生速度下降了40%。
