在2010年5月3日和2014年11月1日之间,606例患者随机分配到接受促红细胞生成素(n= 308)或安慰剂(n=298)。这些患者中的10例患者在6个月时失去随访(促红细胞生成素组中的6例,安慰剂组中的4例);因此,596名患者的主要结果分析数据是可用的(促红细胞生成素组中的302例,安慰剂组中的294例)。与安慰剂相比,促红细胞生成素没有减少GOS-E评分1-4级的患者比例(促红细胞生成素组中的134例[44%] VS 安慰剂组中的132例[45%];相对风险[RR] 0.99 [95%Cl 0.83-1.18],p=0.90)。在安全性方面,促红细胞生成素没有显著影响6个月死亡率 vs 安慰剂(促红细胞生成素组305名患者中的32例患者死亡[11%] vs 安慰剂组中297例患者中的46例[16%];RR 0.68 [95%Cl 0.44-1.03],P=0.07),或增加下肢深静脉血栓的发生率(48/305[16%] vs 54/298[18%];RR 0.87 [95%Cl 0.61-1.24],P=0.44)。

对于中度或重度颅脑损伤,促红细胞生成素并没有减少重症患者的神经功能障碍(GOS-E 1-4级)的数量或增加下肢深静脉血栓的发生率。促红细胞生成素对死亡率的影响仍存在不确定性。
