许多研究都表明,日常巧克力消费,特别是黑巧克力的消费与心脏健康的改善密切相关,因此,研究人员希望观察巧克力是否也可能与心房颤动风险降低有关。
他们调查了55,502名年龄介于50至64岁之间的参与者(26,400名男性和29,100名女性)。参与者提供了他们通常每周巧克力消费情况(1次消费约1盎司)。同时,研究人员获取了参与者心脏病风险因素,饮食和生活方式等信息。然后使用国家注册表数据来追踪参与者的健康状况。
研究人员对参与者进行了平均为期13.5年的追踪,并确诊了3346例新发心房颤动。在考虑与心脏病有关的其他因素之后,研究人员发现,每个月消费1-3次巧克力比消费少于1次巧克力的人新诊断房颤风险降低10%。其他消费水平也存在明显差异:每周食用1次风险下降17%;每周2-6次下降20%;每日1次或更多降低14%。对女性而言,每周食用一次巧克力能降低21%的房颤风险,而男性则需要每周食用2至6次才能降低23%的房颤风险。
虽然该研究的关联十分显着。不过,这是一项观察性研究,因此不能得出因果关系的确切结论。而且,巧克力中可可粉的含量,牛奶的添加可能都会影响研究结果。
此外,来自美国北卡罗来纳州杜克心房颤动中心的医生还强调,该研究中的巧克力食用者相对健康,受过更多教育,这些因素都与更佳的健康状况有关,这可能会影响研究结果。其次,研究人员也无法将其他心房颤动的危险因素考虑在内,如肾脏疾病和夜间呼吸问题(睡眠呼吸暂停)。该研究仅包括诊断为房颤的病例,使得难以确定巧克力是否与心房颤动风险较低或仅仅与明显症状相关。
尽管如此,科学家仍然表示这项研究结果是有意义的,或许能为心房颤动的预防提供新的见解。
