对于该项研究,Weiss和他的团队将52名超重的中年男性和女性分成三组——节食组,锻炼组或二者同时进行组,他们控制这些参与者在12-14周期间减掉7%左右体重。那些只进行节食或锻炼的参与者被告知减少20%的食物摄入量,或增加20%的活动水平。那些既节食又锻炼的参与者被告知减少10%的食物摄入量,并增加10%的活动水平。

研究人员分析了这些变化如何影响心血管健康指标,如血压,心率和其他心脏疾病和卒中标志物,如高水平的“坏”胆固醇

他们发现这三种策略对于改善心血管健康同样有效,并有望降低人一生患心血管疾病10%的风险——从46%降至36%。

Weiss观察到,虽然同时进行节食和锻炼并不比单独进行节食或锻炼的效果更好,但他的研究并没有允许减肥改善心脏健康的人去吃高热量的垃圾食品或久坐不动。他提倡结合健康饮食和锻炼作为首选策略来保护心脏健康。

“由于我们以前的研究和其他的研究指出,运动和饮食都提供了独特的健康益处,但要认识到饮食和锻炼对于健康长寿都是很重要的,”Weiss说。

“虽然我们的研究中没有发现热量限制和运动对心血管疾病的传统危险因素的额外好处,但很多患心血管疾病的实际风险不能由传统危险因素计算。因此,我们的研究结果并不排除节食和锻炼对于降低心血管疾病可能性的额外效果。此外,不活动的生活方式本身就是心血管疾病的危险因素,尽管这种效果的生理机制是未知的。”
