研究人员证实在小鼠和人类体内,细胞产生的硫化氢是由一种被称作硫醌氧化还原酶(sulfide:quinone oxidoreductase, SQR)的线粒体酶所使用的,其中SQR参与每个组织中的细胞的能量产生。

论文通信作者Luis Carlos López García解释道,硫化氢是一种毒性气体,在高浓度时能够导致死亡。“在近几年,已有一些研究表明在生理浓度时,硫化氢是一种发挥着重要生理功能的细胞标志物。在高浓度时,这种气体抑制细胞水平上的能量产生,但在低浓度时,它促进能量产生。”

酶SQR也在它的反应中使用辅酶Q10,因此当辅酶Q10缺乏时,这种酶的水平显著下降,因而限制它的活性。这种缺陷导致与辅酶Q10缺乏相关联的生物能量缺乏,但是它也导致胞内硫化氢水平增加,而这种增加会导致谷胱甘肽和某些脑神经递质水平、血压和一些蛋白修饰发生变化。

因此,这项研究证实了硫化氢的生理学重要性,其中硫化氢是由我们的每个细胞产生和使用的。

López García解释道,“此外,我们的研究将硫化氢代谢变化鉴定为一种新的与辅酶Q10缺乏相关联的病理学机制。最终,这项研究在病理学角度和治疗角度上为针对硫化氢的新研究和应用打开大门。”
