类风湿关节炎患者患2型糖尿病和肥胖症的风险比没有类风湿关节炎的人高，中国扬州大学比较医学研究所的研究人员们指出，目前，类风湿关节炎和糖尿病患者分别使用糖尿病和类风湿关节炎药物治疗，针对这两种情况的治疗都会使两种情况都受益。

研究人员们在一份新闻稿中说：“我们研究了来氟米特是如何在分子水平上起作用的，发现它的目标是一种与胰岛素受体脱敏有关的蛋白质，它负责指示细胞开始从血液中吸收糖，我们知道一些炎症因子也能使胰岛素受体失敏，而来氟米特是一种抗炎药，因此它可能部分通过抗炎作用来控制血糖。”

研究人员发现，作为来氟米特的一种活性代谢物，A771726对S6K1活性的抑制作用使得胰岛素受体信号在正常和胰岛素抵抗条件下对小鼠肌管以及脂肪细胞中的抑制作用。

研究人员还研究了来氟米特对肥胖和高脂饮食诱导的糖尿病小鼠模型以及正常饮食小鼠的抗高血糖作用。他们发现来氟米特治疗使血糖水平正常化，并克服了高脂肪饮食小鼠的胰岛素抵抗和胰岛素耐受试验；然而，治疗对正常饮食的小鼠没有影响。
