美国国家癌症研究所(NCI)在2016年财政年度拨款550万美元资助建立多家实验室以便加快研究生物标志物和开发生物标志物测定方法用于检测乳腺癌、前列腺癌、肺癌、泌尿生殖器官癌以及发病率快速上升的癌症。

正如已被指定的名字,生物标志物开发实验室(Biomarker Developmental Laboratories, BDLs)将成为NCI早期检测研究网络(Early Detection Research Network)的一部分。这种早期检测研究网络是一项国家计划,其任务在于发现、开发和验证用于早期癌症风险评估、检测、分子诊断和预后。

在这种资助机会中,NCI的目标是资助建立8到10家BDLs,这些BDLs将开发和描述新的生物标志物及其检测方法,或者优化现存的生物标志物及其检测方法。

NCI正在鼓励使用整合组学方法(integromic approaches)、系统生物学方法和/或信号转导通路分析来鉴定生物标志物以便能够预测某种癌症发生和确定与一种特定肿瘤相关联的特异性生物化学、细胞和生理学特征。感兴趣的研究还包括使用癌症基因组图谱(Cancer Genome Atlas),或者高通量测序技术来理解促进一些癌前病变(pre-neoplastic lesions)中的侵袭性产生机制,以及在组织、细胞或分子水平预测肿瘤行为。

适合这种资助机会的研究领域的例子包括但不限于:发现和开发大有希望的组学生物标志物;开发新的血液/组织相关的生物标志物用于癌症检测和诊断;将基因和细胞信号传导、生物化学通路与新的基于网络/通路的在不同类型个肿瘤中具有广泛应用的生物标志物整合在一起。
