研究者Mark Birch-Machin博士指出,本文研究揭示了一种新的关联,即参与人类皮肤生物能产生过程的蛋白质(比如复合物II)和皮肤色素沉着之间的关联,这就提示复合物II或许在通过活性氧(ROS)信号介导的偶联压力感应和细胞适应过程中扮演着重要的作用,同时该研究发现或许也将帮助研究人员开发治疗皮肤癌的新型疗法。

文章中,研究人员检测了三种类型的黑色素瘤细胞产生低水平、中等水平及高水平色素的能力,同时分析了细胞处于静息状态下活性氧和线粒体复合物II的功能,线粒体复合物II是一种线粒体能量产生蛋白链的组分;研究者发现,在黑色素较重的细胞中通过复合物II介导的ROS的产生的比率也相对较高,随后研究者通过提供酪氨酸来诱导颜色较轻及处于中等程度的黑色素瘤细胞产生更多的黑色素。

研究者表示,当同时增强线粒体复合物II的功能时,所有的黑色素瘤细胞都会表现出较高的黑色素产生水平,该研究阐明,尽管疗法后ROS会增加黑色素产生将近300%,但是随后这种黑色素瘤的产生水平会降低到一个基准水平。黑色素瘤可以通过涂抹防晒霜来预防,研究者指出,但是目前全世界很多人死于黑色素瘤,而本文研究也揭示了黑色素产生和线粒体中活性氧产生之间的关系,这对于后期开发治疗黑色素瘤的新型疗法将会带来非常大的帮助。
