社交媒体会让抑郁症更加严重,还是能拯救抑郁症患者?一些研究表明,社交媒体的使用与抑郁症的风险有关,特别是在儿童和年轻的成年人中。例如一项发表在《美国医学会精神病学》杂志上的研究表明,每天浏览社交媒体平台超3小时的青少年,更容易出现抑郁、焦虑、攻击性和反社会行为等心理。

为了描述自我报告的单个社交媒体平台的使用与成年人抑郁症状恶化之间的关联,来自哈佛医学院麻省总医院的专家开展了一项网络调查研究,结果发表在JAMA Network Open杂志上。

这项调查研究包括在2020年5月至2021年5月期间,在美国18岁及以上的个人中大约每月进行的13次非概率互联网调查的数据。采用Logistic回归法,以9项患者健康问卷(PHQ-9)得分增加5分或更多作为结果。

结果显示,在8045人中,共有5395人(67.1%)在初次调查中PHQ-9<5分(小于轻微抑郁症状)并完成了第二次PHQ-9。这些受访者的平均(SD)年龄为55.8(15.2)岁;3546名受访者(65.7%)为女性;329名受访者(6.1%)为亚洲人,570名(10.6%)黑人,256名(4.7%)西班牙裔,4118名(76.3%)白人,122名(2.3%)美国印第安人或阿拉斯加土著,太平洋岛民或夏威夷土著。

初次调查时使用社交媒体与PHQ-9临床显著增加之间关系

在符合条件的受访者中,482人(8.9%)报告在第二次调查时PHQ-9得分增加≥5分。在症状增加的调整模型中,观察到使用Snapchat会增加53%的抑郁风险(aOR=1.53;95%CI,1.19-1.96),Facebook(aOR,1.42;95%CI,1.10-1.81)和TikTok(aOR,1.39;95%CI,1.03-1.87)则分别增加42%与39%。

综上,在最初没有报告抑郁症状的调查对象中,使用社交媒体与随后抑郁症状增加的可能性更大。
