这种新型检测技术可以用于处于X染色体连锁隐性基因疾病风险的母亲中,包括血友病和杜氏肌营养不良,同时还适用于患溶血性疾患的新生儿的检测;当母亲得到医生的安排或处于怀孕早期时,该技术就可以利用来自母亲的血液进行检测。Neil Avent教授表示,尽管十多年来我们可以利用孕妇的外周血来检测胎儿的血型和性别,但本文研究为我们提供了一种准确且敏感性的检测胎儿机体DNA的血液检测方法,利用该技术或可对别的疾病进行检测,而且相比当前的非侵入手段而言这种技术价格较为低廉。

研究者补充道,这种新型技术为早期鉴别婴儿的一些疾病提供了一种相对低风险的方法,其随后还可以帮助进行早期诊断,同时开发新型疗法来对孕妇和婴儿带来益处;从客观角度来讲,这种技术可以促成对孕妇患者的临床管理和治疗。

最后研究者Ross Welch博士说道,进行这样一种新型检测是怀孕个体可以选择的一个项目,因为怀孕的人们有权利知道未来要发生什么,当然本文研究中研究人员开发的这种新型检测技术不仅是有效的,而且还会对母亲和婴儿带来极低的健康风险。
